1976 Porsche 911 Speedometer Odometer Gear Repair

Recently we had a customer stop by with a clean 1976 Porsche 911 slantnose in need of repair. Their odometer mileage no longer advanced, but the speedometer needle worked correctly.

The signal from the gearbox was making it to the gauge pod because the MPH was moving, but the odometer was not. This could only mean one thing. The plastic gears that drive the odometer deteriorated over the past 40+ years!

No problem for the techs at Tanin Electronix. We were able to disassemble the gauge pod and replace the affected gears. The odometer was brought back to life, gauge pod reassembled, and we were greeted with one happy Porsche owner.

We are able to repair many mechanical odometers from the 1970’s through the early 2000’s when manufacturers started to switch over to digital gauge clusters and digital odometers.
